After seeing Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the superb P.S. I Love you, it was great to watch him on screen again in a pretty similar role in this one, and I hope there are many more . The accidental husband is a really great little idea, with some excellent scripting and performances from all involved, not a completely 'samey' sort of rom-com this one has more to it and as sentimental as it is, one of my top rom-coms of the year so far. On top of that it has a superb cover version of the Buzzcocks 'Ever Fallen In Love With Someone' just at the right point of the film. Definately worth a watch and recommended for a cuddly night out - or in !
Cheesy film: boring, predictable, contradictory, full of clichés and more embarrassing to womanhood than Bridget Jones - The Edge of Reason.
What a load of drivel, especially the ending, can't actually believe I watched it. You have been warned.

Uma Thurman is Emma a radio love doctor who always takes the sensible approach to relationships and admonishing those that follow the 'true' love, romantic line. Colin Firth is her sturdy, appropriate option of a partner (soon to be husband) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (some might recognise from Supernatural or Grey's Anatomy) is the 'accidental husband'. Basically Uma gets in the way of Jeffrey's relationship and he gets his own back - nothing accidental about it. There is your plot set up and the rest of it is soooooooo very predictable you could have written it yourself (in about two minutes, on the back of a napkin!).
The characters are immensely annoying, you don't care in the slightest what happens to them and the relationships are lacking in any chemistry or charm. This is not an intelligent addition to the genre, neither is it original. It is difficult to watch and includes a hotch-potch of ideas and scenes (particularly relating to Patrick's 'family' and Isabella Rosselini) that don't add anything or work at all and are frequently dropped moments later like even the director couldn't work out the point.
If you want a better Uma contribution to the romance genre then rent Prime, it's quirkier, has a plot and the acting is far better.
What a load of drivel, especially the ending, can't actually believe I watched it. You have been warned.
Had to turn it off it was so bad.
Totally appalling. No redeeming features whatsoever. A complete waste of a good cast. Remove it from your rental list immediately.
I got this film out because of two things.....One, the stars in it are good, it looked like a good story. Two, for my wife and daughter ( it looked like a chick flick ) They left the room after fifteen minutes saying I shouldn't pick any more films. So please if you want to earn brownie points or stay in the good books with your family DON'T bother with this film.
Picture the scene : we've just finished a romantic Valentines dinner and sit down to watch a romantic comedy to suit the mood of the evening. Not my usual choice of film genre but, hey, its Valentines, and Colin Firth is usually good in these things. Wrong!! It's apparent from the first couple of minutes that this is a clunker....terrible script, terrible acting. Uma Thurman is really, really bad in this. Colin Firth looks decidedly embarrased most of the time. 'Lets keep watching it', my lovely wife says, 'it might get better'. It doesn't. A complete waste of 80 mins of my life (thank god it wasn't any longer) and possibly the worst film of the decade. No redeeming features whatsoever.
Nothing special, run of the mill rom com.
