A scrappy but often hilarious screen version of Private Eye's comic strip, with Barry Crocker visiting some of England's grottiest highways and dirtiest byways, in the company of his aunt, Edna Everage. That's right, possums, this is an early screen outing for Barry Humphries's batty alter ego, offending pommies left, right and centre, and even flashing Joan Bakewell on a late-night TV show. Words and phrases like “chunder” and “tubes of beer” entered the English language and a lot of it, frankly, is disgusting. And to think that director Bruce Beresford went on to make Driving Miss Daisy.

    CRAP CRAP CRAP

Just maybe, maybe this was funny once, but not now. We have all met Australians, yeah, yeah, they claim to be anti-this anti-that anti-pom, loudmouthed beer drinking uncouth yobs. But we exported them and, funny this, even after all those years isolated they still behave like us, yeah that's right anti-this anti-that, loudmouthed beer drinking uncouth yobs. So there's evolution for you. Anyway this film is about an ozzy in London in the 60's/70's can't remember and don't care. So he-man he is that he brings his aunt edna along. It starts off bad and just drones on till it becomes drivel.
