This Disney adventure is one of at least eight film versions of Mark Twain's celebrated novel, but it can hold its head much higher than several of its predecessors. With his wide eyes and refreshingly uncontrived manner, Elijah Wood gives a good account of himself in the title role, learning about racial tolerance thanks to his friendship with Jim, an escaped slave played with great finesse by Courtney B Vance. If writer/director Stephen Sommers occasionally soft-soaps and over-modernises in an attempt to connect with his audience, he nevertheless gets fine performances from a brutish Ron Perlman and the roguish duo of Jason Robards and Robbie Coltrane.
"...Jason Robards and Robbie Coltrane, working in tandem like a well-oiled vaudeville act, offer a zestful, hugely enjoyable comic turn..."
didn't know what to expect from this movie as i had not heard much about it during it's original release back in the early 90's!the film stars elijah wood(yeah that guy from lord of the rings) as the title character of huck finn, though the film is made and distributed by disney and aimed at the kiddy/family market the movie has some suprisingly tense moments and with a good cast including support from robbie coltraine and anne heche left me feeling entertained by a movie i didn't have particularly high hopes for!give it a try.
This is a very watchable movie. Elijah wood is excellent and you can see the potential. My children watched it and it was great watching it with the family
