This Disney feature begins with a whimsical version of the Washington Irving story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The tale of put-upon schoolmaster Ichabod Crane is pleasingly told by Bing Crosby, but it's the adventures of Toad of Toad Hall that capture the imagination. Basil Rathbone provides the narration, while Toad is superbly voiced by Eric Blore, best known as the butler in many of the Rogers-Astaire musicals.

    half good half bad

two stories narrated by bing crosby

here we have disneys version of wind and the willows and sleepy hollow

the first wind and the willows was okay not great after already seeing the updated wind and the willows with rik mayall voice of toad much better for the kids

as for the ichabod story was very weird animation character who was tall and skinny with big ears and nose was a little frightening for youngsters to watch but enjoyed the 2nd story much better

i dont know how this was a classic disney but i was left a little disappointed by the ending of the ichabod story which left unanswered questions at the end

but was much better than melody time

    A little known gem

A real blast for the kids and all the family......top notch art work and a really spooky story! You will all love them. Only minor drawback is that they are both only about 30 mins long.

    Strangely OK

Bit of an old style cartoon.

    Nothing fantastic, but OK.

Children enjoyed it, but didn,t want to see it 1000 times!

loved this when i was a kid...

i confess i haven't seen the mr toad cartoon, but i saw the ichabod cartoon as a child and it really stuck in my memory. i remember it as spooky and weird and interesting - i really liked it, but then i have always liked spooky stories. i haven't seen it since then and i don't knw if most children would go for it, but if your kids like spooky stories they might really like this. i really thought this was great when i was a kid - i hired it on vhs back in the 80s and watched it as many times as i could before it went back to the video shop (which in those days wasn't long!). i think i would have been 8 or 9 at the time.

Mr Toad is ace - Ichabod naff

The first half of the film - a condensed Wind in the Willows - is fantastic, but the Ichabod Crane segment is rather slow and dreary and not nearly as wild.

    A mixture

Why not 'Mr Toad and Ichabod'? (That's the order they come in on my system, anyway.) An English author and an American one - why this juxtaposition? Each is a good story (if somewhat adapted to fit, in both cases). Good narration - but why narrated, I wonder? Ah, well: sit back, relax and enjoy. It's not there to strain the brain, but it is a good way to chill out.

    Neither one thing...

The only reason why these two stories come stitched together is because neither was long enough to warrant a separate release, and, apart from the two volumes sitting beside each other on a library shelf, that's their only connection. It makes for an awkward film, with a jaunty yet oddly flat version of 'The Wind in the Willows' followed by an initially slapstick version of 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' which then turns alarmingly scary with the entrance of the Headless Horseman. Curiosity value is probably its best reason for existing.
