I don't normally ...
By Sam#17 from BOURNEMOUTH , 16 Jul 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
I don't normally review films but, in this case, I felt I had to.Whilst bored at work I was browsing some film titles to put on my list and I came across this movie. The description soundedc like it might be funny and with Eddie Murphy being in it I thought this would be the case. I was totally wrong. This film sucks. DO NOT RENT IT!!! What Eddie Murphy is doing in it I don't know, he clearly didn;t read the script.
Watching this film was a waste of an hour of my life (it does go on longer - but I couldn;t bear to continue watching it).- Was this review helpful to you?

(30)A Confused, Blighted, Bloated Folly
By kingoftheducks (16 reviews) from London , 03 Jul 2012One of the biggest flops in Hollywood history, this film's budget ballooned out of control, it sat on the shelf for a while and then was unceremoniously dumped in cinemas doing major damage to the careers of Eddie Murphy and director Ron Underwood, but, mainly to writer Neil Cuthbert, whose Mystery Men had been a box office dud a few years earlier.
Which is a bit of a shame. Though nowhere near as wonderful as Mystery Men, The Adventures of Pluto Nash does still share that script's abundance of quirky ideas, though this one has clearly gone through a wealth of re-writes, coming across as an arch take on Total Recall. However, something has got lost in the mix, oddly this film looks like a day-glo family comedy, though most of the humour comes from watered down innuendo.
Perhaps if this had been a slightly darker, more adult comedy things would have worked. But, as it stands, the film feels compromised and diluted, with the narrative stripped off all meat and intrigue.
Luckily though, Murphy isn't too unbearable in the title role, playing it surprisingly low-key, Rosario Dawson is as engaging and likable as always, whilst the rest of the cast is filled with cameos and strong character actors, which does keep things watchable at least. Unfortunately though there's a bizarre cheapness that pervades the movie and the film has clearly gone through the wrangler - whether that was in rewrites, reshoots or re-edits I don't know - and it cna be felt in the awkward tonality and lumpen storytelling.- Was this review helpful to you?

Eddy Murphy ??? Why ?
By Phiddius (28 reviews) , 27 Jun 2012Eddy Murphy ??? Why ?
Expensive Hogwash,
looks like they recycled the old Total recall set, this story has no need to be on the moon, it could have stayed in the bin, I'm an EM fan but this !! I almost beat myself around the head with the mouse for watching 20 minutes of it,
they could have saved a small country from starvation with the money they must have wasted on this nonsense- Was this review helpful to you?

Strictly For Kids
By Nicky D from Kent,England , 29 Jul 2006This movie is strictly for kids. He does say Sh*t in this, which is rather unnecessary. Adults will be severely disappointed and bored with the direction and script and some of the acting is very poor. Oh! and Eddie Murphy really does look like he didn't rehearse for this at all. Just looks adlibbed on his part.- Was this review helpful to you?
