Andrew Garfield breathes new life into this comic-book franchise, but it's still an overly familiar story.

Superior to the other Spiderman filmsBy tez4444 (1 review) from Farnborough , 04 Jul 2012
[Highly rated reviewer]I think this reboot is far superior to the Sam Raimi take on Spiderman. For one thing Andrew Garfield IS spiderman. Its how Spiderman is in the comics. The sarcasm Spiderman has is all there, and although its different in some ways to the canon Spiderman origin its still a really great film. Although not a contender against Avengers or the Dark Knight Rises. Sequels will have greater potential though.
As a fan of the comics the directors should atleast try to keep to the characters. Spiderman without wit isnt Spiderman. I'm so glad they did reboot Spiderman. Why on earth do critics seem to think Sam Raimis take on Spiderman is any good? The films are full of flaws, the chinese girls rendition of spiderman theme anyone? I was hoping that Sam Raimi would capture the fun banter between Venom and Spidey. That proved to be a horrific dissapointment. Tobey Maguire is geek in a suit. No fun banter from the Spiderman we all know and love. Watching the Spiderman films and comparing them to the reboot is just painful.
This is a great film to all those that have lost faith in the Spiderman franchise. Well done Mark Webb! Now lets hope you can be bold enough to implement Carnage as the main villian in a future film. Cos that done right would be on level pegging with Avengers.

Brilliant for Big KidsBy Davysgirl (26 reviews) , 19 Jun 2013Totally enjoyed this one, fantastic acting and not just for the kids! We watched this twice we enjoyed it that much!!!
so - soBy mualpha (1 review) , 16 Jun 2013not an inherently bad movie but it does suffer on two fronts. 1: Editing is poor (the Stan Lee scene transition is particularly jarring) 2: Timing. Peter Parker was originally a nerd and outsider at school. At the moment, 'geek-chic' means that the character can be seen as almost mainstream.
Whats that smell??By Cheese_Embalmer (27 reviews) , 15 Jun 2013SO amazing is Spiderman that they made exactly the same film twice, yet this one, although labelled 'amazing', stinks like a rotten red leicester due to fact that its EXACTLY the same as the old one!!!!!!
Boring first hourBy Criddler (5 reviews) , 12 Jun 2013Why spend an hour introducing Spiderman and how is who he is?? Decent action once it got going. Certainly didn't offer anything new to the franchise. Passed the time
Lacks any new ideas - mostly disappointingBy Benskie (3 reviews) from Hove , 10 Jun 2013Fails to bring anything new to the Spiderman franchise. Much the same as Raimi first outing without some of it's charm or decent plot. Both leads were good, but the rest seemed pretty hackneyed. The villain and plot after the origins part was just plain dull and made very little sense. It did not take the character in any new direction either closer to the comic or to somewhere original. Given we already have Raimi trilogy this is very disappointing. There is still a much better origins Spiderman film to be made.
