The reviews need reviewingBy muswellhillnick (13 reviews) from London , 11 Nov 2012
[Highly rated reviewer]I really don't get the early reviews for this! George Clooney is always pretty good vfm and he doesn't disappoint here. In my view this is a really thoughtful movie. It's not all action but its well paced and got some exciting moments, although it has some flaws - not all of it seems to fit together. All in all, like life it's about regrets and escape and butterflies.

An enigma wrapped up in a puzzleBy MichaelKenward (30 reviews) from Staplefield, Sussex , 17 Sep 2013Not sure what The American is all about. In 'making of' they talk of it as a western. But that seems to be a way of saying 'we don't know what it is about either'. Bloke makes guns and shoots people. Has a hard time making friends they might get shot. Redeemed by a warm hearted hooker. As you would expect from Corbin, fine photography. But that may be a part of the problem. It gets in the way of the 'story'.
Just awfullBy Filmwatcher44 (1 review) , 04 Sep 2013Avant garde a clue...................spends too much time taking itself too seriously and ends up delivering pseudo arty farty rubbish which is disjointed and highly predictable..
A bit slow.By Fuzzyfelt (4 reviews) from London , 02 Sep 2013I think this film is Ok if you know what to expect from the outset. The pace is slow and does not pick up, so as long as you're happy with a quiet evening and not hoping for an edge-of-seat-thriller... you should be fine.
Slowly does itBy Leeza (16 reviews) , 01 Sep 2013I wasn't sure what to expect when I sat down to watch this film as it was my partners pick. It was a very slow film and took its time telling the story. Interesting idea and passed a Sunday afternoon but not exactly memorable.
Slow but satisfyingBy Bigeats (20 reviews) , 01 Sep 2013The slow pace may be off-putting to some people but George Clooney maintains the interest with a controlled, well acted performance as a man who realises that his days as an assassin for an unnamed organisation are numbered and he is in danger, but from who?
