  • Solid techno-thriller

    [Highly rated reviewer]

The original Lawrence Sanders novel was clever because almost all of the narrative consisted of intercepts by various agencies as the protagonists planned and executed their heist of all the appartments in an expensive New York building. You can't transfer that strategy precisely into the film medium but director Sidney Lumet pulls off a tight multi-threaded techno-thriller with some good performances from Connery and Balsam among others. It's not nearly as dated as the 1971 release may suggest/

  • Electronic Audio Effects Overload!

    Rated - 1.5 stars
    By a customer , 02 Nov 2012
Lots of unnecessary 60s-70s audio effects spoil this film as a watch! I imagine these audio effects being pumped into a padded cell to drive someone insane would do the job! Apart from the audio, relatively middle of the road fare for the time......can't be considered good, but certainly not the worst

  • This is a caper movie

    Rated - 2.5 stars
By Zamy (552 reviews) from London , 06 Jul 2010
For those of you old enough to remember, the 1960-70’s produced this sub-genre of action film that sort of poked fun at the action movie. With Sean Connery in the lead role here at the height of his Bond powers the film probably had a considerable box office draw. There is some serious intent here because Sidney Lumet is using his considerable directorial powers to examine the extent that surveillance has expanded and encroaches on our lives. Despite this topical interest the whole farrago looks a bit odd now. Not a high point for either Connery or Lumet but if you want to sample a caper then you may be (mildly) entertained.

Bold, muscular performance from Connery, brilliant direction from Lumet and a great script. Thrilling and worthwhile.

  • English OAP Review

    Rated - 1.0 star

Absolute rubbish. I should have stopped watching it after five minutes as I felt inclined to do, but after reading the revues here I thought it couldn't be as bad as I feared. I won't make that mistake again. It's completely dated, amateur, puerile rubbish.

A very good film to watch and enjoy. With friends or on your own. Also liked Sean as the feel good actor.
