Absolutely Fantastic. Betty Davis in Fine Form. Classic.
By Debs from Scotland , 14 Oct 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
Great old movie which stars Bette Davis who has to be one of the best actresses ever. I remember watching this when I was little, and again as a teenager. I never tire of this very amusing movie about a family who all gather once a year at Bette Davis's house. There she resorts to all kinds of ways to torment her family, such as emotional torture, and general nastiness! Very amusing. A joy to watch even today.- Was this review helpful to you?

(12)High camp
By peterthegreat (8 reviews) , 16 Feb 2013one of the campiest Hammer films I have ever seen - predates Abigail's Party but with a similar appeal. Any son who has ever suspected his mother of sabotaging his plans will find evidence a-plenty here.- Was this review helpful to you?

What made British films great!
By gillianan (6 reviews) , 18 Nov 2011Fabulous Davis with a sting in the tail! A rather marvellous Hammer Films adaptation of a stage play. Wish they still made them like this!- Was this review helpful to you?

My dear, would you mind sitting somewhere else? Body odour offends me !!!
By a customer , 03 Sep 2011The fact that Bette Davis is in this Movie, is good enough for me.
It's a typical 1960's film, with a really good, strong cast, but Bette's nasty, evil character just makes it.- Was this review helpful to you?

The anniversary
By haddyanne (6 reviews) from East Lothian , 03 Jul 2011Watched this years ago at the cinema. Enjoyed it again but found it rather dated and half the actors are sadly dead. Oh dear it does make my feel rather old!! Worth a watch tho' Bette Davis is marvellous as the Matriarach.- Was this review helpful to you?

Mommie Fearest
By itstinks (681 reviews) from North of Reading , 30 Dec 2010A true horror of a dysfunctional family being led by a monster of a mother.
Bette Davis has a delicious time as the domineering mother who is constantly trying to control her grown up children. Who in turn aid her by picking on each other as well.
Scariest film I've seen this year.- Was this review helpful to you?
