You can't beat a bit of BullyBy Mbub from Westbury, Wilts , 11 Aug 2007
[Highly rated reviewer]A young boy , who is being bullied my an older kid, decides to take it out on some ants, only to find the ants fight back and teach him the error of his ways. Great animation, but not really a well thought out storyline. Yes, I know it wrong to torture any creature, but come on...ANTS, these are probably one of the worst insects in the world, especially the flying type, so who hasn't sprayed them with liquid, or poured hot water over them when there are all over your garden furniture when you are sitting there minding your own business. If this film had been about worms, which actually enhence the earth, or even spiders that eat nasty flying things, like ants, then I could have seen this film in a better light. So anyway, all in all the film was good, animation brillient, like it should be nowdays, but the subject matter was questionable.

Not F-ANT-astic, but ANT-joyableBy PedroB (15 reviews) , 19 Apr 2012The Ant Bully is a surprisingly likeable movie, presenting an interesting morality play about how everyone can be a bully - even a little guy - as well as a Pixaresque take on the human world, from the perspective of an ant.
While there is nothing new or groundbreaking here, the tropes of the modern animated movie are executed competently and with a surprising lack of corny or low-level humour (even the odd fart and crotch joke works!). The characters are likeable, the voice-acting is good, and while some plot twists seem rushed, the story throws enough at the viewer to keep them entertained for the breezy 75-minute duration.
If there is one gripe, other than the lack of originality, it has to do with the fact that - like in many other modern animated films - the supporting cast steals the show. Characters such as the delightfully Gaston-esque scouter ant, the jaded, deadpan glow-worm and Lucas's conspiracy-theorist grandmother deserved their own films, and one wishes they had been given more screen time.
In the end, however, this does not detract from what is essentially a decent family flick. If you have kids and you are bored at home on a rainy afternoon, you could do worse. Grab some scones and popcorn and enjoy!

Good visuals + cheesy story = frustratingBy MidnightsTail (40 reviews) from Oxford, England , 10 Apr 2012Very interesting to compare the ant design with other films featuring ants! This lot go for striking and rather fierce looks, and the cuteness levels are, refreshingly, much lower for much of the visuals.
A boy gets bullied and in turn mauls an anthill on the front lawn, without provocation. An ant wizard applies a magic potion to miniaturise the offending human - and he must earn his freedom by truly learning what it is to be an ant.
To my taste, this story is unattractively preachy. Some of the voices are too bland, some gags are laboured beyond funniness, and even within 'storyworld' rules I found much of the story ending unbelievable and naffly cheesy. But the ant colony and stinging insect airforce visuals are worth the watch.
A bit frustrating: because this film could and should have been better than it actually is.
