The delight in Wolfgang Reitherman's turn-of-the-century movie, set in a charmingly detailed Paris, is the brilliant matching of voices to visuals. Hermione Baddeley voices the aristo-owner of elegant feline Duchess (Eva Gabor) who, with her three kittens, is befriended by Phil Harris's alley cat after the butler, Edgar (Roddy Maude-Roxby), has tried to do away with them because the old lady has left everything to the cats in her will. The Sherman brothers' songs are out of the top drawer.

Why didn't this make the big time?
Lovely scenes, the dogs are the best!
THe cats are just soo cute. If you like cats, get this one.
One bad point - the DVD I got had a small scratch which mean you lose about 2 mins of the film.
Being a Walt Disney addict seing this movie as a kid was obviously going to be something brilliant. ' The Aristocats' sees a french Madame and her pet cats: the mother is Duchess and her kittens are Berlios, Tolouse & Marie. basically these kittens live in Paris with Madame but then the evil butler Edgar sends them down the river so he can gain the Madame's inheritance/fortune. this film has it all + a little mouse nad some cool alleycats but the best is Thomas 0' Malley who is really cool.
A film I have always wanted to see and I wasn't disappointed.
Whilst it lacks the level of detail of such films as Shrek and A Bug's Life, the animation is typical if its' time with detailed characters on a fairly static background. This combined with a simple storyline makes the film accessible for just about all age. Some excellent animation, such as the geese walk.
I would definitely recommend this film for anyone.
Aristocats is classic Disney at its finest, leagues beyond the insipid rubbish that they put out now. If you want to see why Walt Disney made it as this century's finest animator, just watch Thomas O'Malley and the Alley Cats getting down and getting groovy with the coolest song ever recorded on an animated film, 'Everybody Wants To Be A Cat'.
The big question however is: why is Disney putting out substandard sequels to 'Lady And The Tramp' and 'The Jungle Book'? Why don't they just release the originals on DVD? The originals are the best!

A very good movie and I can highly recommend it for family viewing. One of Disneys best animation films, it had my grand children glued to the telly until the end. What a lovely peaceful time.
Apparently the final film to be supervised by Walt Disney, it is a sad end to golden career, with a lame story and some pretty dreadful animation. Set in Paris (for some unknown reason, as Eva Gabor provides the only 'foreign' voice) and featuring only two 'famous' songs, well, one famous song ('Everybody wants to be a cat'), it features the vocal talents of said Eva Gabor and Phil Harris (rather wasted as Thomas O'Malley, the 'alley cat' who appears to spend most of his time in the country). There are some funny moments (hence the one star rating), involving the two bloodhounds, but if you want to see true 'classic' Disney, stick to his much earlier offerings.
Beautiful drawings, good songs, memorable characters and a good yarn. A 70's period piece which has enduring quality. Excellent for children of all ages, even the very little ones, although there is a scary bit when the mouse is confronted by the alley cats, so PG for the under twos!
What a great film for the whole family very funny ,yes its a classic Rent it now
i love this film. it is great. the songs are catchy and funny and the characters memorable. especially the geese visiting from england.
Not the best drawn disney, but it's fairly fast paced and the kids shouldn't get too bored. With familiar voices from The Jungle Book and Robin Hood, and with a plot not unlike Lady and The Tramp you can safely sit your kids down for and hour or so, and you're forced to watch it with them it isn't too painful.
