LOVEFiLM Review
-
By Tom Charity from LOVEFiLM
A delightful comedy that pays homage to Hollywood's silent film era of the late 1920s/early 30s.

A silent movie to shout about
By A-lad-in-a-hat (13 reviews) from Brighton , 13 Feb 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
Simply irresistible. Deals with universal emotions of love and remorse, this is more then a skit, this is a lively and lovable comedy that's full of personality and charm- Was this review helpful to you?

(174)Its silent - it really is! And Black and White!
By AndrewOfDoom (60 reviews) from Cardiff , 18 Jun 2013I don't know what I was thinking when I put this on the rental list but its genuinely silent. Its also black and white. I know it says that but my brain just must not have registered it. We watched 30 mins before turning it off (at my wife's request). The story was incredibly simplistic. I didn't care for any of the 2D characters. There was nothing to hold my attention. The 'dialogue' was like an old film (not surprisingly). I might as well have been watching Charlie Chaplin (who I catch abide) or Harold Lloyd (who I love). Rent some old Flash Gordon if this is your thing.- Was this review helpful to you?

What?.. no cheese?
By Cheese_Embalmer (20 reviews) , 14 Jun 2013Artistic. Yes. Boring. Yes. Good movie to fall asleep to. Distinctly let down by the lack Dairy based entertainment. Can't have everything i guess..- Was this review helpful to you?

lovely love story
By marymaryquitecontrary (6 reviews) from Brighton , 11 Jun 2013a lovely love story well told and beautifully shot, marred only by the fact that the disc skipped at a crucial moment, otherwise perfect.- Was this review helpful to you?

Very disappointing.
By StatlerandWaldorf (8 reviews) , 28 May 2013Has some nice scenes, the dog is great and I realise that the hackneyed obvious story is in fact paying homage to the silent films and they way they were presented, but honestly it just not meet the hype, it didn't even really rate as a good film. It seems like this is a film designed to catch all the awards hype by being done in black and white and (mostly) silent, 4:3 ration etc. But what is the pay off for this? Not really much. Its like a clever student film with high production costs. In 10 years I think people will look back at this film in wonder that it won so many awards. There are so many more intelligent thought provoking films made even by Hollywood.- Was this review helpful to you?

Not quite what it's cracked up to be.
By Janeekins (23 reviews) from Banbury , 26 May 2013A good evenings worth when there's nothing better on TV but it was definitely a skinny year at the Oscars when it won!!- Was this review helpful to you?
