I am old enough to remember The Avengers in B&W (or was that just the TV!) from Diana Rigg's days when it was originally on TV, but I hadn't seen any of the Cathy Gales stories. These are great fun and well worth viewing. They have a lovely 'live' feel to them (not sure if they were broadcast live). Patrick Macnee & Honor Blackman are a joy to watch. The downside to this series is the quality of the picture...but then don't we all fade a little with age.

As a person of the age who remembers seeing these early episodes of the Avengers on ITV in the early 60s, it was most refreshing to see them again on DVD the picture and sound quality is first class one must remember that these early shows went out live and were all studio bound.

So to sum up ........ well worth seeing again from a pure nostalga point of view but to be fare not a patch on the Diana Rigg episodes that followed.

I often wondered if any of the earlier episodes starring Honor Blackman had survived in the archives, the answer was yes the pre 1963 shows however were no so lucky.

For new fans of the Avengers beware however these shows were / are all studio bound and lack the feel of the later Diana Rigg shows, that said it`s nice to see these earlier shows the picture and sound quality is very good and it is a credit to the earlier pioneers of live television in the UK that the series went from strength to strength.
