Suzette (Goldie Hawn) and Vinnie (Susan Sarandon) were groupies in their heyday, partying with the likes of Frank Zappa (who dubs them the Banger Sisters), Jim Morrison, and virtually every other rock star and roadie that passed through Los Angeles. Twenty years later, Suzette is a bartender who finds herself too old to stay in the Los Angeles rock scene. Distraught, she heads to Phoenix in search of her former best friend, picking up neurotic and quirky Harry (Geoffrey Rush) at a gas station along the way. But when Suzette arrives in Phoenix, she is surprised to find that her once wild friend may as well be a different person. Married to a lawyer with political aspirations and the mother of two teenage daughters, Vinnie is now LaVinia, a refined, cultured pillar of the community. With Suzette back in town, LaVinia is confronted with her past and finds that she must make peace with it to fully embrace her true self. Hawn and Sarandon are well cast, and Rush is a scene-stealer as a wounded man who finds new inspiration in Suzette. Writer Bob Dolman makes his directorial debut with THE BANGER SISTERS.

This is a likeable, if unspectacular attempt, to see what happens to groupies after the tours and tequila have dried up. Goldie Hawn plays Suzette, an over-the-hill rock chick who's still reminiscing about the time Jim Morrison passed out on top of her. She's travelling across the country to hook up with former partner-in-crime Lavinia (Susan Sarandon), now a model of suburban respectability, but once the other Banger Sister — a title supposedly conferred on the duo by Frank Zappa. Once they meet, the life lessons are trotted out with predictable regularity — Suzette teaches Lavinia how to live again, Lavinia teaches Suzette how to move on — and the writing fails to deliver on the promising premise. However, Hawn (essentially playing daughter Kate Hudson's character from Almost Famous) and Sarandon are a winning pairing, and they're ably assisted by Geoffrey Rush as a neurotic writer whisked along for the ride.
Contrived comedy of two women undergoing a midlife crisis; it has a few amusing moments before its predictable feel-good ending.
Really enjoyed this movie. Was funny, fast paced and well acted. Plot wasn't great but very enjoyable. Worth watching.
I was expecting this to be a really good movie - Susan Sarandon and Goldie Hawn are two of the most well known actresses around. But the film lacked that 'je ne sais quois'. If you are expecting a typical Sarandon film - don't bother!
Goldie Hawn is plotting a movie comeback and wants to star alongside her A-lister daughter Kate Hudson. Hawn has been in acting retirement since finishing her last movie, 2002 comedy The Banger Sisters. But sources claim she is ready to return to the big screen at the age of 63, and wants her 29-year-old daughter as a co-star. An insider insists the pair are considering a number of projects, telling the National Enquirer Hawn is "looking for something current and modern". Read more
