Another Great British Film..
By PaulaWestwood (397 reviews) from Ashton-Under-Lyne , 07 Mar 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
Theres something about these British robber films, like this and The Great Train Robbers etc' that just have an atmosphere - something less violent than our U.S. counterparts, but menacing nevertheless. And this one is no exception, as it captures the period superbly. The whole thing is fantastic as a film in its own right, but the fact that it is a 'let the cat out of the bag' based on real events film makes it all the more interesting and worthy of a watch. Put that with the fact that Jason Statham has had parts like these in a bag for some time now, and again does not let us down, this is well worthy of a watch.- Was this review helpful to you?

Rooting for the thieves
By PedroStephano (10 reviews) from Bushey Village , 02 Feb 2013Tense drama with just enough menace in the bad guys to keep you guessing. Great British gangsta flick. It lacks stunts but that's because it's based on a real story. It starts cool, warms up after about halfway through, then cooks red hot in the last ten minutes. Superb ending tying up all the threads. And we end up rooting for the thieves. Of course.- Was this review helpful to you?

Better as history
By Platospupil (195 reviews) , 30 Jan 2013I really was not enjoying this. Jason did not seem up to his usual, unlikely stunts and the film seemed flat and predictable when it was not being unbelievably silly. It was not until the credits rolled and I found that this was 'history' that the film made sense. Telegraph this information forward and I get the point. Better for that.- Was this review helpful to you?

Could have been terrible.
By DrStrangePork (1 review) , 12 Nov 2012Not much to fault about this film. An updated version of a familiar genre which 40 year olds and up will find very entertaining. Suchet was particularly good. I had low expectations as Statham can be rhubarb but was grinning when the film ended. Well played by all.- Was this review helpful to you?
