Good Western

Of the many Westerns that appeared in the 1950s this is perhaps one of the better ones. Jeff Chandler was again cast as Cochise, a role he had played two years earlier alongside James Stewart in Broken Arrow.
Although there are the usual battles between the US Cavalry and Indian warriors the main conflict is between Cochise and the Apache renegade, Geronimo. While Chandler is excellent as Cochise the part of Geronimo is equally well played by Jay Silverheels who is probably best remembered as Tonto in the B/W TV series 'The Lone Ranger'. (2)Inaccurate battle scenes
By gfb (25 reviews) , 14 Nov 2011The Bascom affair where Cochise is taken hostage is well done but after that betrayal of a white flag would Cochise risk all to get his wife tended by a military doctor. I think not. Most of the military involved in the Battle of Apache Pass were infantry and not cavalry and the film could have depicted them as such as the cavalry in the film fought on foot.
Not a bad film but could have been a lot better.- Was this review helpful to you?
