I saw this at the cinema and loved it.
The central character is torn between his love of music and his violent life.
If you love to lose yourself in music you will find something to identify with in here.
I don't think there was a single bum note in the movie.

Love of music Vs life of crime

scene through a haze of Gaulois fog
By papatez (295 reviews) from folkestone , 08 Jul 2012I can forgive French cinema just about anything because that is what makes it so quirky and worth watching but I gradually became less interested in the story line and more and more obsessed with the number of cigarettes being smoked. Each scene opened with a new cigarette being lit and the director seemed to replace soft focus in emotive scenes with a haze of gently wafting smoke. I'm far from being a militant anti-smoker but it just got to me in the end and ruined what was probably a great movie. Gritty and violent to sweet and melancholic

Engrossing French drama which splits between gritty and violent to sweet and melancholic with Romain Duris excelling in the lead as the tormented Thomas.
It is very French in the whole feel of the film which gives it a certain grace in a way that only French films have and the music is beautiful throughout.- Was this review helpful to you?
