I watched this when it was first on the TV and it now seems a bit dated, but it still much better than most rubbish on the TV these days. If you want a very pleasant 3 hours with no silly camera work, no violence, plenty of gentle humour, and some excellent acting with a bit of mystery, try this.
I think you probably have to have seen the two previous Beiderbeck series to appreciate this one. I saw them all when they came out and was relieved that they've stood the test of time. The dialogue sparkles with wit & humour, and the interplay of characters we come to know like old friends is a delight. Actual plot doesn't really matter much, serving only as the framework the whole thing hangs upon. Bolam & Flynn make a wonderful couple, and it's fun this time to see them with a baby. Good too to see familiar faces like Big Al & Little Norm, and the posh policeman back for another turn. Classic television.
