Ben Gazzara loses cancer battle

Stage and screen legend Ben Gazzara has died after losing a battle with pancreatic cancer - the same disease that killed his Road House co-star Patrick Swayze. Gazzara, who was 81, died at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan on Friday. Jeff Bridges was relieved to lose out on five Academy Awards - because he prefers his "under-appreciated status". Jeff Bridges is planning to adapt classic sci-fi book The Giver for the big screen - and he wants to star in the title role. Veteran actress Dame Judi Dench was handed a top prize as she helped launch the Karlovy Vary film festival in the Czech Republic this week (beg27Jun11). Moviemaking duo Joel and Ethan Coen were awarded a £625,000 prize on Sunday (15May11) during their first visit to Israel.
