Documentary-maker Michael Moore is something of a thorn in the side of politicians and big business in the United States. He's written bestsellers about the state of the American nation with Stupid White Men; documented the effect of General Motors's closure on the people of Flint, Michigan, in the film Roger and Me; and in The Big One, Moore turns the camera on his very own book tour with a mix of comedy, political commentary, observation, and his singular distrust of corporate America. It's a superbly realised, often funny and sometimes depressing documentary, but it?s never boring. Indeed, it's worth it just to see Moore's suggestion that Nike should move their factory to Flint, or even his attempts to get past security guards to interview millionaire company chairmen. More evidence, if any is needed, that Moore is still one of the most fascinating documentarians making movies today.
The content of this DVD is exceptional, the views and findings of Michal Moore are always amazing, and shocking. However this DVD was made a long time ago and if you have read his books and seen Bowling for Columbine you may not learn anything new from this film. I would only recommend this to the truly hardened fan, or to somebody who has never seen anything by Michael Moore before.
This is standard Michael Moore, which means it is excellent, all fans should see this. An hilarious video diary of the book tour for his book Downsize This! Features excerpts of speeches and signings , as well as the usual corporate sabotage. Everybody should watch and read Michael Moores' work as it gives voice to a viewpoint seldom heard in todays media.
