Robert Mitchum is a pleasure to watch and only really has to raise his eyebrows to out act everyone else. Apart from him the acting is not brilliant and some of the casting choices are quite bizarre, as is the location of London instead of Los Angeles. But the plot ticks over at a good pace and there are some very classy moments. Yes, you probably will compare Mitchum to Bogart and Winner to Hawks, but try and put your comparisons to one side, forget Winners recent poor reputation and just try and enjoy what is essentially a very camp and kooky film.
