Don't be a Joe Brody

The Breen Office must have been keeping an eye on this one. William Faulkner adapts Chandler's story and weeds out the steamy details. And he does a marvelous job of it. The dialogue is therefore imaginative and racey in its own way. Yes, it sizzles. Follow the plot? I wouldn't try your first time; just sit back and enjoy Bogart and Bacall delivering great lines. The supporting cast--Eddie Mars, Joe Brody, Kaneeno, and Elisha Cook's character--all well done. Keep an eye out for the famous race horse dialogue in the bar and Bacall's rendition of 'She was a sad, sad tomato...a busted valentine.'
