Between a rock and a hard place

'Maxi' Oliveros is a flamboyantly effeminate 12 year old boy living in Manila with his widowed petty criminal father and two adult brothers who develops an adolescent crush on a new local policeman. This is not a 'gay' film, sexuality being relevant only in setting up the central theme of loyalties torn between his family and the (straight) object of his affection. It's a sweet little film, well acted with a marvelous central performance.

    sit back and observe

I found this compelling to watch - you are transported abroad to observe this docudrama. Accurate. Very believable charcters and the story is almost second place to the every day lives they lead.
