Not the sameBy A Hobbit from The Shire , 06 Jul 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]This film is alright in it's own right but is nothing compared to the original. with the death of john Belushi, obviously he couldn't be in this film but without him it isn't the same. and the fact that he was replaced with an annoying child who cant act, sing or dance just hits the nail on the head. Dan akyroyd however, is still wonderful as elwood and it is for him alone that i have given this three stars. unless you are a great fan of dan akyroyd don't watch this, watch the original. its much, much better.

ClassicBy Donethat (14 reviews) from Reigate , 11 Dec 2007Unbelievable that a sequel could be as good as the original but it is every bit.
This is one of those rare films one can watch again and again and again.
I must return my copy soon I suppose
No.By superba (62 reviews) from London, UK , 13 Nov 2007Do not watch Blues Brothers 2000 unless you really have nothing better to do.
Do not bother buying it, unless you want the original film and can only find it in DVD, coupled with its far, far inferior sequel.
Why Dan Akroyd would choose to do this - or more specifically, why he would choose to do this so badly - is anyone's guess, considering the cult status of the original movie. But, do it he did, and now there's no taking it back.
With Jake gone, Elwood's release from prison (wherein he appears to have forgotten how to speak with a believable Chicago accent) prompts him to set about reuniting the band, again, this time with the help of a brat he inexplicably kidnaps from his old orphanage and John Goodman, who tries his best but only manages to draw attention to just how much he is clearly no John Belushi.
This film is something of a Disney version of the original, with more slapstick and less gritty attitude about it. Everyone looks older, greyer and portlier - and to be honest, just a bit tired of going through the same old motions all over again.
Thankfully there are moments reminiscent of the first film, and these come like finding water in the desert. The car related humour is as good as ever, and the 'Battle of the Bands' jam session finale, chock-full of cameos, is enjoyable enough to be worth sticking around for, although the temptation to switch off may be strong at times.
In the main however, this is a rainy Sunday afternoon movie. No great classic by any stretch of the imagination, but just inoffensive enough to pass the time should you be at a loose end.
5 out of 5 - Top FilmBy crazysexycool from Barnet, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom , 09 Jun 2007I love the Blues Brothers and this film was excellent... Was so funny and the singing was perfect.... Is a must watch for all the family...
This Film Was Made By People On a Mission From The Devil.By Chris Johnston from The Isle of Wight, England , 25 May 2007John Landis- what the hell happened to you! From Animal House and Trading Places to this. I'll admit the first film is a mess. It has to be said, but my-oh-my what a spectaular mess. It's a musical, it's action and its comedy and- well, there's nothing like it.
And while that film (somehow) managed to be successful in every gnere it seemed to try this film fails in every way possible.
At best this is a poor, poor re-hash of the original. The plot is terribly weak, so are the songs and- for some reason the film decends into fantasy in the third act. I'd also add that it's about as funny as a BBC 1 sitcom. No it's even less funny that that.
Don't watch this film. It sullys the name of a classic.
Good way to pass the timeBy a customer from London, UK , 07 May 2007Good way to pass the time, not at all realistic as you would expect, but great way to let the afternoon go by, just dont try and pick holes in it!
Great music, and a good sequal to the original.
