This film lasts for 3 hours 1 minute and 12 seconds - not the 90 minutes it says on the sleeve.
Despite some very poor translation into English it is still a film well worth watching. It gives a real insight to the hardships faced by the military despite them using their best endeavours to succeed. Failure inevitably meaning death as a traitor.- Was this review helpful to you?

(25)A Crime Against The People

You know that children's game where you draw a head, fold the paper, pass it to a friend to draw a body, fold the paper and hand it on for someone to draw the legs then you all laugh at the stupid thing you've put together? That's how this film was written. It's disjointed, stutters from scene to scene and the characters have been bought in from 'Cliches R Us' The acting is passable, the special effects reasonable but the whole thing is a failure. The subtitles appear to have been translated from Russian to English by someone who doesn't speak either language. Maybe Russians like mawkish, melodramatic, derivative tosh, or maybe their film 'grammar' is different from the West, but this is a waste of a rental. I'm glad I turned it off halfway through. Don't. Just don't.- Was this review helpful to you?

Excellent movie.....
By Sesh (8 reviews) , 25 Feb 2013Very good movie. Gives a very good account of the Soviet system, the nationalism and the actual human emotions in play. The predicament of the prisoner of war camp for the Soviet POWs and the extremes some go to just survive while others brave the same inhuman treatment for their motherland...intermixed is a romance play in-between with excellent and touching music. I'd give it a five star but for some wanting direction and camera work.- Was this review helpful to you?

Commies 1 , Nazis 0 !
By Parkes (1 review) , 01 Jan 2013Ok, where to start...I love war films, this I liked. I enjoyed it even, but not a 12, a solid 15. I'm not in any way a Tipper Gore type, but unless you want to answer some difficult questions from your 12 yr old, watch alone. A good portrayal of the conflict, a bit confusing at times, some strange translations in the subtitles, great action scenes, good acting, very bad editing, it's as if an advert may appear any moment. Overall good, watch Come And See, and Defiance then compare. Unnecessarily long though, Only my opinion, comments welcome.- Was this review helpful to you?

Good Film, poor subtitling
By Seanieboy (10 reviews) , 20 Dec 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
Such a great film, a riveting plot, well acted and enjoyable. What a shame to ruin the enjoyment with such amateurish subtitle translations, how did that slip through the net, could someone not be bothered?!!!!!! Still worth a watch.- Was this review helpful to you?
