Boy what a stunning show! Something for everyone, action, violence and horror (torture and a tableau of the last supper to put one off one's dinner) for men. For women, moving romance, intrigue, daring and dashing men looking gorgeous while busying themselves with dastardly derring do. Exquisitely beautiful women illuminate the Borgia story, looking like Botticelli goddesses, holding their own against the nefarious ways of their males.

This is beautifully written, convincing, beautifully directed and quite, quite thrilling. The pace is perfect, the acting sensational, Jeremy Irons is perfectly involving and believable but so too is everyone of the rest of the cast. Neil Jordan who wrote and directed this has created the most beautiful, sumptuous, rollocking, humorous and delectable show I've seen for years.

Having watched it with someone who wasn't keen, preferring Hollywood shlock (brain dead action and multitudes of explosions) , they too became enthralled and excited within minutes and can't wait to see the next episode.

It's visually stunning, each scene looks like a scene from a Fra Lippi . The actors have performed a rite of necromancy, breathing life into long dead men and women, the Borgias walk again, their story which bewitches and tantalises, it's unbeatable entertainment.

For those who love history and know how reality beats fiction every time, you won't be disappointed and for those wanting to forget the credit crunch and walk into another life of incomparable beauty, intrigue, horror and fascination, say hello to the Borgias.

  • The bloody Borgias - great drama

I have watched season 1 and 2 of The Borgias and have been enthralled by the production. The acting, costumes, sets and feel for the historical period are all superb and the fact that each episode ends on a cliffhanger makes you eager to watch further episodes - it's quite addictive. The cast is mainly British, but the central character of Cesare Borgia is played by a French-Canadian actor, Francois Arnaud. His scenes with Gina McKee must have been fun to rehearse! No spoilers here but watch season 2 to find out. For anyone interested in 1400s history and the Borgias as a family, this series is a must-see. I can't wait for season 3. Karen Johnston

well, that's the end of the second series done with. Really enjoyed it although the first few episodes were quite slow.

Acting is fantastic, sets & costumes just fabulous, it ended as a bit of a 'will he won't he?' but have googled the next series so I have my answer now!!

can't wait for series 3, bring it on!!

Series 1 we greatly enjoyed. But series 2 are simply shallow totally unhistoric episodes of sex and violence so we abandoned the whole thing part way through. Apart from excellent performances it did nobody any favours.

Perhaps the most enthralling series ever. With plot and sub-plot running through each of the series, that are set in lavish surroundings and with magnificent costumes,it makes these discs compelling viewing.

  • Fantastic Drama!

Even better than the first series! Steven Berkoff is fantastic as the zealous friar, Savonarola, who preaches against the Borgias in Florence. Caterina Sforza is the gutsy Duchess of Milan whose proudly refuaes to kneel to the Pope and pays the price. While Cesare Borgia's ambition knows no limits, even to the betrayal of his own family. And I might add you don't have to be religious to enjoy this series. I am an atheist, but find the power that religion has over shaping belief fascinating. This is as much a history of Italy too, with Macchiavelli, the Medici, the Farneses, and the Venetipan aristocracy mfeaturing. I can't wait for the next series.
