Wonderful fantasy plot and great acting
By Acoustionicus from Clackmannanshire , 25 Dec 2003[Highly rated reviewer]
This is an extremely well-made movie. All the leading actors (Jim Broadbent, John Goodman et al.) give of their best and one feels they had a blast making this. Watch out for superb cameo appearances from Hugh Laurie (as a cop) and Ruby Wax (Town Hall receptionist). The surrealism is furthered by the Morris Minors (even Ocious' stretch limo is a Morris Minor!) and the strange filtration of blue from the cinematography so green and red predominate. This has all the makings of a cult classic!- Was this review helpful to you?

Here we go again .....
By a customer from Southampton , 30 Apr 2008There's a weary inevitability to this film, as it lurches from one predictable slapstick disaster to another. It's also weirdly dislocated geographically, part British, part American, part fantasy world.
Having said that, whilst it lacks much of the charm of the TV series that spawned it, Jim Broadbent puts in his usual whimsical performance, John Goodman is excellent and the set design and scenery is fantastic.
It's essentially a feelgood film, very easy-going and harmless, and it's only about 90 minutes long so it reaches its unsurprising climax before anyone's got time to get bored or irritated with it.- Was this review helpful to you?
