Directed by Richard 'Donnie Darko' Kelly, will The Box live up to its predecessor?

Right since other reviewers on here have not seen The Box my review may seem a little odd.
First off this is nothing like Saw 1-6 (And at various points of boredom I have forced my way through them all). I notice that someone else on here has stated that this is based on a short story from the Twilight Zone; I assume this is correct as all the way through I could not help but think that that is exactly what it feels like (I did not know it was at the time).
The story follows a couple who have been given a small black box by a sinister stranger. They are told that if the button on the box is pressed, they will receive $1 million; but someone, somewhere, who they do not know will die. They press the button and the story explores the consequences of that moral choice.
The Box seems to be following on the vain of last summers Knowing (which I enjoyed), in the recent re-emergence of 1960-70s style 'science fiction light'. I don't want to give much away as like with Knowing its very easy to spoil it for future viewers. So with that in mind I'll simply say that its enjoyable trash with a heart. Sure its an over long, extended TV episode with delusions of grandeur; but it knows what its doing and I can think of far worse ways to spend 100 minutes (the Saw movies spring to mind).
As a final note it's fair to say that this is no science fiction classic, like Blade Runner for example, and to be equally fair its not trying to be. But, if you enjoyed Knowing or films of that ilk I see no reason why you would not like this.
P.S. If you like the idea of a box based film, I heavily recommend you search out Primer!!!- Was this review helpful to you?

Psycho playing puppets with stupid naive couple... Really painful to watch
By Vixen29 (16 reviews) , 11 Oct 2012I loved Donnie Darko... But both me and my hubby did not like this film... We'd been wanting to see it for ages, thinking it was a psychological thriller. But we didn't know it was based in the 70's with scary wallpaper I thought I'd never see again... And we did not expect for the film to turn Sci-fi and almost like invasion of the body snatchers with mind-control... The idea that the whole 'pushing the button causes someone to die' and this cycle repeating itself was good, along with the moral dilemma about this... But the husband visiting another dimension and all the cult-ish brainwashed people and the glowing water etc was just too far! I kept waiting for the couple to say 'up yours' and get off the merry-go-round but they just believe everything they're told and didn't seem very intelligent - they followed some psycho's manipulations perfectly like human puppets! This film seemed like it couldn't make its mind up and the ending was stupid and tragic. It was just ridiculous! And the undertone of disfigurement, with the foot, the face and the blind deafness - what was with that? Why was that relevant? If people compared this to Saw... Its not. This was manipulation with magic, not chainsaws. What kept getting to me was that they didn't put the money in the bank (And they did have banks in the 70's!) and also that they could have walked away with their million dollars and flown to Barbados to lay on the beach and drink from coconuts... but they stayed put and chose to stay in the psycho's game being manipulated... And that was just stupid!- Was this review helpful to you?

REGRETTABLY NOT DIAZ'S THOUGH!
By nORMObAZZA (1248 reviews) , 07 Sep 2012A neat twist on a familiar theme, but rather clumsily handled. DIAZ may look great, but she's too light weight, especially when up against LANGELLA.- Was this review helpful to you?

This film should not be certificate 12!!
By a customer , 07 Sep 2012I was very shocked at how scary this film is! It's a good film and I found it gripping and liked how the plot unwound and gave me something to think about. I was not prepared, however, for it making me jump! I have recommended this film to my sister and on the night that she watches it am going to leave a box outside her front door ha ha- Was this review helpful to you?
