Meaningful and thought provoking. Fantastic performance from Depp.By Debbie from Scotland , 12 Apr 2005
[Highly rated reviewer]Very disturbibg due to it's brutal honesty about the way society forces some native american's to live. The movie focuses on one family's struggle to survive and in particular one man's sacrifice to provide them with a better life. Depp's character offers himself to star in a snuff film where he will be tortured to death. Don't watch this movie hoping to see torture and brutality - this movie is about the relationships and struggles that drive one man to make the ultimate sacrifaice. I was hoping and praying towards the end of this movie that Depp would somehow get out of his deal and find a better way forward...... This movie affected me for days afterwards. Still get a strange feeling thinking of it. Not to be missed, especially if you are a Depp fan.

scaryBy a customer from London , 28 May 2009How much did it take to submit to that warehouse. I wonder but life is fickle. Harrowing was what I thought of it.
I struggledBy Juls77 (5 reviews) from Peterborough , 23 Apr 2009I struggled with this one, maybe it's from having a new baby and viewing films in one sitting is now a luxury .. but I watched maybe half of it over a period of a few days and eventually just gave up.
Would probably be better to view in one sitting.
Not so braveBy a customer from England , 06 Apr 2009I love Johnny Depp, and he looks as lovely as ever in this flick, but the thing is awful from begining to end!! Don't rent this film.
Objectivity is the keyBy harrypalmer1 (8 reviews) from Brumland, England , 25 Mar 2009I've just read some of the reviews of this, and still can't get my head around the rave ones. Those who gave it five stars are clearly JD fans, and would watch anything of his. But, you should consider why he has only directed one movie for the big screen. There are some interesting scenes, particularly Brando & his henchman. And you get a sense of his desparation, to find a better life for his family (even though he spends a lot of the money in some flea pit of a bar. But most of the scenes just go off into some false pretentious tangent & just die off in boredom. Clearly, he was given too much freedom on this one, and it has embittered his own experience, as well as ours.
Beautiful.By a customer from Essex , 17 Mar 2009It is moving, beautiful, with an insight into the society on the other side of the Atlantic, I thought the play on religion was fantastic, the sacrifice and love portrayed were delicate whilst strong. The story, is clearly a superb story to have made into a film and for me the rest just slotted into place. Great film.
