Breakfast Club stars to reunite for Hughes tribute

    • 16 Sep 2010

The kids of cult movie The Breakfast Club are to reunite again this weekend (18Sep10) for a tribute to late director John Hughes. Molly Ringwald and her castmates will be part of a Hughes celebration planned by the Film Society For Lincoln Center in New York, and she hopes this tribute is bigger and better than the moviemaker's 2010 Oscars nod, in which she and other Hughes regulars presented a montage of clips. Ringwald tells BlogTalkRadio.com, "I thought it was a really lovely tribute at the Read more

John Hughes: “Don’t you… Forget about me.”

    • 11 Aug 2009

First Michael Jackson and now John Hughes. For those of us who were still growing up in the 1980s this summer is a rude reminder that we’re all getting older, and faster than we thought. Hughes – who died from a heart-attack last week at the age of 59 – can’t really be compared to Jackson in terms of fame or artistry. Most people probably never saw a picture of him before this week. But don’t underestimate Hughes’ impact on those teenagers who would turn... Read more

Ringwald didn't speak to Hughes for over two decades

    • 13 Aug 2009

Actress Molly Ringwald is relieved she resolved her differences with writer/director John Hughes before his death last week (06Aug09), after confessing the pair had not spoken in more than 20 years. Ringwald was a teenager when she landed breakthrough roles in the filmmaker's hit 1980s movies Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink, but the actress fell out with Hughes when she turned down a number of subsequent roles in his movies to work with other directors. She writes in the Read more

    Drillbit Taylor

    • 25 Mar 2008

In Drillbit Taylor Owen Wilson plays a confrontationally-averse bodyguard to a trio of 12-year-olds. Wilson's funny in small, almost wistful touches, but it's arguable that his sensitive approach actually undermines the material's belly-laugh potential. Like too many of his recent movies, this one doesn't feel like it has any pressing reason to exist, and it's not half so much fun as it should be. And that's before you factor in the expectations raised by producer Judd Apatow (Knocked Up) and... Read more

    Stars pay tribute to Hughes

    • 07 Aug 2009

Steve Martin, Macaulay Culkin and Matthew Broderick are leading the tributes to director John Hughes, who died on Thursday (06Aug09). Hughes passed away after suffering a heart attack while out walking in Manhattan, New York. The father of two stepped away from the limelight in the 1990s but stars from the big screen have offered their fond memories of the director, whose career spanned back to the 1980s. Broderick, who was directed by Hughes in the 1986 comedy Ferris Bueller's Day Off, was... Read more
