If didnt see this series when it was shown on TV you missed a real treat. Id give it six stars, if that was allowed. Disbelief was certainly suspended; for me these werent just characters, they were believable as real people. It does what fiction is supposed to do, make the made-up more real than real life. What an insight into English middle class domestic dottiness. Pass the kedgeree! Are such wonderful, awful coves still around? Alas, they are probably a dying breed. I'd say Calipso!
I know a modern historical film should not appear dated - but to me this did. I remember thoroughly enjoying this as a TV series several years ago but coming back a second time I found the whole thing a bit trite and blase.
Maybe we have become accustomed to a better style of drama over recent years...who knows.
Still - that having been said, if you like a solid family saga type film set around WW2 then worth a watch.
