  • A Good Thriller

A very good although outdated thriller on the same basis as The Dual although instead of a lorry, a car. Keeps you in suspence throughout but disappointing ending. However, if you like suspence and a thrill, this is the film for you.

Although it seems a little dated and weak, it still can give you a shock or two, when you don't expect it!

  • The coolest, creepiest car in any film. Sadly, everything else is forgettable.

The car is the star, make no mistake! It looks fantastic and has a real sense of menace about it. Sadly, the rest of the film is so dated it becomes very mediocre when the car's not on screen.

All characters and dialogue might as well have been lifted out of any random, cheesy 70's cop show. The characters are pretty boring, and there's little to make you care about them, which is at odds with how creepy the film gets when the car is on screen.

I dislike remakes, but this film would be a prime candidate for a quality 're-imagining' methinks. There's a classic horror-thriller in here, but it's smothered by a thick layer of 70's cheese.

Worth a watch, but just to see the car.

  • Worth a watch - once at least

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHide

Only wanted to watch this as the car was designed by the legendary George Barris who also did the original Batmobile, Pink Panther Car, Munster's Dragula plus many, many more. Unfortnately this was the 1970's and cars were boxy & boring and Bariss just could go against the grain. The car looks good/menacing from certain angles but not most. You find yourself asking why the characters don't just get off the road & they'd be safe. Sorry for the spoiler but it's a relief when the far too perky school teacher gets flattened. Brolin is pretty solid in this and you can see the strong family resemblance to his son (Josh-No Country for Old Men) in this film. Worth a watch but don't need to see it more than once. Gave is a painful half a star rating only because it is hard work to watch but hey sometimes things are so bad they're good!
