Oh, dear! A terrorist has passed on a deadly plague to the passengers of a luxury express train, which has to be rerouted across a rickety bridge to a deserted concentration camp in order to prevent a worldwide epidemic. Burt Lancaster, the mastermind behind this cunning diversion, had the right idea when he suggested blowing the train to smithereens — ideally with the film inside. There were better effects and more thrills in Gromit's train chase with the penguin in The Wrong Trousers. Like Lancaster, Sophia Loren, Richard Harris, Ingrid Thulin and Ava Gardner should have known better.

This film is probably one of the worst films ever produced on Earth.
That might be why I so like it.
It'over the top from Scene 1 to the end, it looks very old fashioned in any way but still it's one of my favorite disaster movie ever.
If you don't like this kind of film, watch it anyway, at least you will laugh !!
This wonderfully kitsch film is as creaky as the bridge over the Cassandra Crossing of the title. A host of famous stars - all with the usual disaster movie hang-ups - gather together on a 'luxury' train with an unwelcome guest in the form of a terrorist carrying a biological weapon of mass destruction. The film was pretty mediocre back in 1976 and age has not improved it. That said, it's fun to watch Ava Gardner and Burt Lancaster ham it up for all its worth and the 'hero double act' of Sophia Loren and Richard Harris. Martin Sheen and OJ Simpson give the old-timers able support - and there's a cute dog too. One for the pizza and beer and nothing else to do brigade...
