Catherine Tate is far too talented and must be destroyed immediately
One of the funniest women I have ever seen
Finally a new face for comedy
this dvd series is superb. this very funny series, has instantly recognisable characters, from the hollywood actress who loves botox, the housewife, who always screams when her toast is done, and jumps out of the toaster, to my daughter's personal favourite - Lauren the chav teenager, who says - 'Am I Bovvered?'
Catherine Tate has a genuine style and wit, that is very funny, and unique.
the characters are a mix of tragedy and comedy, like Bunty the 31 year old baton twirler, who will not quit or go quietly.
well worth renting out.
This highly original sketch show is a creeper - apart from obvious immediate hits like the foul-mouthed East End grandmother and Bernie the repellent nurse, the characters can take some warming up. However, they soon become like members of a (very dysfunctional) family and without dependence on catchphrases strike an hilarious note of familiarity. One of the funniest and most rewarding sketch shows in years.
Look at my face, look at my face, bothered? bothered? face, bothered, face, bothered?
But do I look bothered though? But do I? Do I look bothered? Am I bothered? Look at my face. Bothered though? But do I? Am I bothered?
The second series is even better but this one is still great.
Love the aga saga mum whose worst nightmare is almost running out of olive oil, and of course foul mouthed Gran - since she's been around I can't count the number of times I have wished I could just shout after someone 'What a F**king Liberty!!!'
As you would expect from watching the TV series. Comdedy greatness, the rude Gran being my favourite. Unlike other TV comedy series, it's difficult to watch more than 1 episode at a time, as some of the characters (such as the Essex couple who find everything funny) grate when you've watched them more than once in one sitting. Probably more worth buying, rather than renting, in order to savour it.

Well yes I am bothered that I had to send this back, it was absolutley hillarious. Catherine Tate has such a wonderful pressence on screen, versatile and wickedly funny. It may offend some by it's language, but don't take it to seriously. Can't wait for Series 2 to be released!

so many people had told me good things about catherine tate, but after this i feel so let down,
If Your lookin 4 a bbc comedy go 4 little britain
Tate doesn't have the stock of characters to touch the likes of Enfield, Fast Show, Little Britain etc, but well worth a trawl through in search of the gems. You quickly learn who you like (Bovvered? & Grandma) and who irritates you enough (immediately, or after a few variations on the same theme / script) to make you hit the fast forward button.
I'm troubled. See, there's a woman right? Now she reacts by screaming with shock at the slightest sudden noise. That's it. THAT'S the sketch! Why do I find it hilarious despite the predicatability? I have no idea, but I do.
If you were to twist my arm and force me to name a shining example of your modern sketch show done right, I'd say Big Train quick enough to make you wonder why you twisted my arm. A little bit further back, The Kids In The Hall.
Catherine Tate's sketches share a scary amount of things in common with Little Britain in that it's largely catchphrase based and concerned solely with a small handful of characters rather than two extremely large handfuls of situations (that'd be the Big Train again).
However, for me, this doesn't leave quite the same nasty taste in the mouth and the eerie feeling of being short-changed that Little Britain does. The abusive nan is always hilarious but my favourite has to be Bunty, the Doncaster Spinner. Lovely stuff, even lovlier, then, that pretty much the whole of both series can be found on YouTube. :)
