  • Sort of Like Amelie

    [Highly rated reviewer]

A feel good movie in the same vain as Amelie. Quite an old-fashioned cliched idea (Goodbye Mr Chips is probably the most famous example, and also Mr Holland's Opus) but it's so enjoyable to watch.

The world it presents is of a group of bad kids who would be good if they were just given the opportunity. Yes, it's sentimental and unrealistic; no, it doesn't deal with the issues of what to do with juvenile delinquents in a deep and meaningful way. But you'll watch it, love it, and feel happier having seen it.

  • Only good notes here - perfectly pitched.

Loved this film. But then I love ' Good- Bye Mr Chips ' with Robert Donat too. This is such a gentle piece and so absorbing I found the music and acting fabulous. More films like this please!

  • Halliwell Who? A beautiful film.

This is my favourite film ever and out of the many people i have recommended it to many have bought it and all but one loved it too. I can't belive Halliwell gave it 1* and I will now seek out films they give low ratings!

The film is typically French with amazing photography and a credible poignancy. The acting is fantastic and characterisation brilliant. To call it predicatable is unfair. Yes there are elements that can be foreseen, but others that can't.I wonder if some of it's finer subtleties escaped the critic's eye.

This is a wonderful film - I might even go so far as to say it is my favourite film. The story and the performances are warm and uplifting and the sound track is fabulous.

  • Haunting music

This film stays with you for ages - the music in particular. I think it's really worth seeing and I thank my French teacher for showing it to us. Haunting music - in a good way.
