    Better than I thought

After reading the magazine reviews of this film I was a bit hesitant to see it but thought I'd make my own mind up.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised as the movie has some smashing effects, a story line that actually picks up from the first movie and carries it forward towards a hopefully coming third movie and a cast to match it all.

Sure, if you look at it critcally you can wonder why they call a planet Crematoria, but then why wouldn't they if it's a scorching hot planet with temperatures exceeding 700 degrees?

    I sure wouldn't call it Snowball 3!

My best tip for viewing this movie is to not get hung up on silly names but to stack your drinks, pop your popcorn, sit back and enjoy the ride!

    Necro-what?

This 'sequel' to Pitch Black unfortunately ditches the original's low-budget suspense and misanthropic air, and replaces them with crash-bang-wallop, dodgy CGI landscapes, po-faced performances and silly names.

If you can take 'Necromongers' seriously and not laugh at a planet called Crematoria you might enjoy this more than I did. Only Thandie Newton seems to have the right attitude as at least she looks like she's laughing on the inside; and Vin Diesel, whose ferociousness seems to have dissipated somewhat, struggles to get the most out of his one-liners.

This film is OK I suppose - though reminiscent enough of a computer game for me almost to expect 'Game Over' to flash on-screen at the end - but it's a disappointment from the same director as did the first Riddick film.

    A must of Vin fans

Vin Deisel is back in the role of his best character - Riddick.

Like the first movie - 'Pitch Black' - Riddick is super smart, super skilled, and super dark.

Although some of the mystique of the first movie is lost because you now know that Riddick is a good guy the movie is still entertaining.

If you looking for a deep meaningful story line or similar gripping tension as 'Pitch Black' you will be disappointed. But if you are after a great action romp with unorthdox hero that mostly cares just for himself then you're in for a treat.

There is one scene where Riddick is put in an impossible situation and performs some incredible heroics to save Kyra aka Jack that got a cheer from everyone in the cinema.

    Clever, funny, hi-octane action.

    Quo vadis, halfwit

This is a film for the feeble-minded, for those whose aesthetic and intellectual cinematic experience is fulfilled with a series of state of the art special effects, the absence of narrative and characters who extend beyond the first dimension notwithstanding. This is an abysmal film, replete with contradictions and requiring a total suspension of disbelief. Consider that the planet on which most of the action takes place has a surface temperature of 700 degrees Celsius, a temperature that will instantly incinerate those who have the misfortune of experiencing its sunrise.

Yet the audience is expected to believe that the meagre shade offered by the shallow caves in the hills on the planet’s surface is sufficiently cool to sustain life. A preposterous suggestion. The kindergarten level plot is acted out with a manifest lack of enthusiasm by actors more productively employed selling ham. The cretinous denouement leaves Diesel as the head of an army whose purpose has never been made clear, whose war - indeed, whose very raison d’etre - has disappeared down one of the plots many black holes. If you enjoy easily digestible pap and are loath to engage your 3 functioning brain cells, this silly flick is for you. If you’re sentient and belong to the higher order of mammal, stay away from this total waste of time. It’s true; you cannot polish a turd.

    I really enjoyed this

I missed this at the cinema ....and wish i had'nt..maybe it caught me just in the right mood but i really enjoyed it.

Excellent effects and Even Vin'Wood' Diesel is at his gruff moody best.

Well worth a look and sounded great on surround system too!!

If you like sci-fi and action its a sure fire hit for the likes of you....

    Whats all the fuss about?

Take no notice of anyone who has put this film down with a passion. I've seen better but I've also seen a LOT worse. Its action with half decent special effects...not bad in my opinion

    If you Liked pitch black

Although very different to Pitch Black. This film is a must see. The FX were fantastic and the plot was well written. The actual film did not really refer to the original, so if you did not see it you can still really enjoy this one. If you are into SCI FI and action films.. this is for you.

Judge for yourself - I did and enjoyed it a lot

I was a bit unsure about this but gave it a go and was rewarded with a great sci-fi action movie. Excellent effects and some nice sets together with lots of good fight scenes, strange creatures and BIG space ships are the ingredients here. The acting was fine for what was required. It's very different to Pitch Black in that it has a lot more action and less character analysis, but that is a good thing. Recommended.

    Exceptionally good!

I hired this movie expecting it to be a massive budget - zero plot movie cashing in on the suprise success of Pitch Black. Instead I find that this movie was awesome, loads of plot really good fight scenes and a hero that never quite finds his way into either category of 'good guy'/'bad guy'. The only slight gripe I would have with this movie would be that the bloke cast as the main 'bad guy' is a bit of a big girls blouse! They should have got some big guns in! 4 Stars.

    Its a shame.

Pitch Black was a great film. It was dark and its plot were simple. The Character Riddick is perhaps one of the best anti heros of all time and Although Vin Diesels charactor remains the sam in this one. The plot got ahead of itself and rushed through. It was more about the effects than anything else. Also when i first watched this i felt like id missed a movie, like this was the third part of a trilogy. It was then that i discovered that it is. The second film to follow on from Pitch black is an animated adventure which apparently explains a bit more about what had happened over the years since they escaped from the planet.

THis film needed to stay a dark cult movie but i fear that perhaps they took it too far and maybe killed off future Riddick movies.

    Classic Space Opera

If u were a fan of Pitch Black (which i was) then there is no doubt u will like Chronicals of Riddick. It is a superb space opera with loads of differing races of beings and absolutely beautiful backdrops and planets. To be fair the story is rushed a bit and in my opinion a couple of the action sequences are far too MTV for my liking!! (very quick editing and lots of flashes - not good and no need) This aside it nicely follows on from its predessessor and sets up the next film (i really hope there is one) with an interesting idea. Riddick is possibly the hardest character ever, certainly in recent times and he kicks the living s**t out of pretty much everybody. If u dont like space films then i wouldnt bother but as an alternative to Star Wars i would highly recommend it!!
