In this witty commentary on political correctness in the work place, Francois Veber directs the excellent Daniel Auteuil as Francois Pignon, better known around the office as 'Pignon le Mignon' (Pignon the Cutey). Poor Pignon is helplessly misunderstood and pathetically down on his luck. A senior executive at a small corporation, Pignon overhears rumors that he is going to be fired. On top of a difficult relationship with his ex-wife and a failing relationship with his sullen teenage son, the idea of losing his job and becoming incapable of making alimony payments is unfathomable. Pignon feels totally defeated--like a real loser. That's why, when Pignon's next door neighbor (Michel Aumont) offers a solution to his problems, Pignon is quick to accept: He comes out of the closet, convincing his coworkers that he is gay, and making it improbable that the company would fire him at risk of legal action. But before he knows it, Pignon's plan has backfired and metamorphosed in hilarious ways, causing a string of bizarre office-related situations and family dilemmas that are both complex and comic.

Almost a quarter century after he co-wrote La Cage aux Folles, writer/director Francis Veber has slightly altered his views on society's attitude to homosexuality — then he targeted bigotry, now it's the new political correctness in France. With its mix of high camp and mocking machismo, this is still a resolutely unreconstructed farce. But in structure, it's a classical comedy of errors, as Daniel Auteuil pretends to be gay in order to avoid redundancy from Jean Rochefort's condom company, and Thierry Lhermitte's mischievous executive dupes the boorish Gérard Depardieu into befriending him to save his own skin. Only such an accomplished cast could maintain this charade's credibility while continually skirting the edges of offensiveness, and it's good to see Veber on home soil, ten years after relocating to Hollywood.
François Pignon (Auteuil) has hit the depths of dull despair. Not only do his estranged wife and teenage son find him... read more on Time Out
Wow.
I'm a huge fan of Daniel Auteuil but mainly for his dramatic performances. This was my first real french comedy that I have watched and if they are all as good as this then I'm a convert!
A very sweet comedy about political incorrectness around a guy who pretends to be gay to keep his job.
Not slapstick humour but a couple classic moments
Auteuil is excellent and is ablely supported by Gerard Depardieu. Really enjoyed this fun little french film.
Give it a go only lasts 82 minutes which flies by.
If you liked Auitel and Depardieu try a gritty thriller called 36
Absolutely funny... Its subtitled - but this movie is worth the read. Very funny and definitely brilliant!!!
