Suspense Overload!By a customer from Beddington , 30 Jun 2010
[Highly rated reviewer]Unlike previous reviewers, I wouldn't say this movie was like the Saw movie franchise.I know that this movie was considered for the Saw Prequel but the producers quickly dismissed the idea, clearly because this movie is in a genre of it's own. What this movie brings to the table is not simply gore (although there is plenty of it), unlike many gore-fests this movie offers a massive dollop of suspense(usually missing in most gore flicks). I think if you add to it the fact that the movie takes place at night and in the dark it certainly heightens the viewers fear and even exepectation on what is to happen next. I sat at the edge of my seat throughout and enjoyed watching the movie. I wouldn't watch it again as I don't tend to like watching gore more than once. However, for me this was a low profile movie but very well made indeed. The only thing I couldn't quite understand is why the Collector collected people and the whole process (so why did he kill some and others got put in a red box). That part was very unclear, however Collector 2 starts shooting in October so we will soon know more about the Collector and what happens to Arkin(the main character played brilliantly by Josh Stewart best known from 'Criminal Minds').

good for fans of gore, nothing for fans of intelligent horrorBy a customer , 30 Nov 2013Rather disappointing. very gory and not really intelligent horror. some of the traps are interesting. but there are quite a few logical errors.
A tense thriller with some gruesome stuffBy CarnageAce (94 reviews) , 04 Oct 2013This film was a good thriller with Horror mostly in the form of gore, traps and .......... this film needs watching not summing up, but this is a dark movie that gets the viewer involved it is a little slow in places but it works. The next film 'the collection' i want to see but the thought of it makes me uneasy so I guess this film did its job.
Watch where you stepBy Sleepwell (17 reviews) , 13 Sep 2013I watched 'The Collection' recently, enjoyed it and thought 'you mug why did you not watch 'The Collector first?' Anyway this first film is roughly on a par, although I would recommned wathing it before the other as there is some flow between the two. Lots of suspense, action, blood and some sentiment, which is not always the case but adds to the film as you actually do care about some of the characters. The 'Collector' is a gimp masked man of mystery very adept at setting deadly traps, hence other reviewers' references to 'Saw', but this is only passsingly similar and has several other elements that set it apart. That said if you like 'Saw' you will no doubt like this.
