This film so much wants to be a 21st century, post financial meltdown version of the great American tragedy, Death Of A Salesman ... and it almost manages it.

This film so much wants to be a 21st century, post financial meltdown version of the great ensemble film, Glengarry Glen Ross ... and it almost manages it.

Unfortunately writer/director John Wells is neither Arthur Miller nor David Mamet so when a great ending appears at the end of this film, he ignores it and carries on for another five minutes with a crappy one that defeats the point of everything he's said in the previous hour and a half.

a smooth, well written, well acted exploration into the unknowns of today's corporate world. Experience and knowledge count for nothing. Grit and determination do. The ensemble of actors in this film is terrific. well worth the watch

  • Not Glengarry Glen Ross but then what is ...

As someone else commented not in the league of GlenGarry Glen Ross or Death of a Salesman. Which might be a bit harsh as these two are seminal films on the corporate sales world and the tragedy within. But this had legs for a while ... good acting from the leads and the sense of being dropped from a great height when fired was palpable. But in the end lost its bottle and went all American and home of the brave trying to be upbeat. Rebuilding industries that died years ago as a close not real I am afraid. Shame could have left the question/future unanswered.... like the real world.

In spite of the global financial situation, I suspect much of the film will only work with an American audience. They still don't know how most of the rest of the world lives and what real hardship is. However, it's nicely contemporary and the action, intrigue and interplay between the characters makes this film an enjoyable watch. Good characters, and it has a pleasant rhythm to it. For my tastes it's still too sweet - and I'd like to see a gritty UK version of the same film. That said, I'd recommend it to anyone for an entertaining 100 minutes.

  • Keeping it Together

The poignant relationship between Bobby and his wife keeps this film together. It is quite a sentimental look at the downside of the credit crunch and, whether you are pro- or anti-capitalism, there is a human story here for everyone.

Really enjoyable with some great acting. Good script and very relevant to global financial crisis. Would recommend watching this film.
