Great film. I haven't laughed so much in a long time. A delightful story, with some moving scenes without being sentimental. A real joy to watch

I really wanted to enjoy this film. Sentimentality and music combined with the triumph over adversity. The little man wins against the odds. However, I was to be disappointed. Firstly, a film about a concert orchestra needs music throughout. Not left until the last five minutes. No rehearsals? I think the musicians would be a little rusty after 30 years. Secondly, perhaps because of the subtitles or poor direction the film seems to loose its way and becomes embroiled in politics. Too little about the orchestra and too much about lost relationships and Russian political battles. If you want to watch a film about a concert, don’t watch this one.

Poor old Trevor Johnson of TIME OUT in his review of the Concert. The film was a wonderful fantasy trip and why should it have been otherwise? The two themes of comedy and seriousness were very welcome and so what if some detail was implausible. We just switched off in the middle Audiard's See How They Fall for it's all too plausible violence and realism. Le Placard was implausible, le Diner de Cons and many other french films but as far as I'm concerned the Concert belongs in the same category as these, was delightful and worth 4 1/2 stars in my book.

To say that the sub-titles were the worst I have ever seen would be an understatement because I have never had any problems with sub-titled films before. This is a shame because I might have enjoyed it much more if it had been intelligible at the time of viewing.

  • If you love great classical music then this is a must!

Had me in tears at the end. This is slow to get going, but when it does you won't regret hanging in there. Very emotional and touching in parts and humorous with some serious overtones that matter. And remember children have the right to know who their parents are, whatever we may think. Watch this film you'll know what I mean by the time it comes to its tearful end. I liked it very much, well I would, because I like classical music, if you do too, then this is a must see!
