Too insistently stylish, perhaps - one could argue that some sequences look as if they've been lifted from a car... read more on Time Out
When my boyfriend rented out this Film I was less than enthusiastic. Firstly, it was an Italian movie with subtitles. I don't speak Italien, and I hate reading subtitles. Secondly, I knew this was an artsy movie. Having only seen artsy movies over the recent weeks, I was craving for Hollywood. Dispite this, I watched It anyway, and within five minites of the film, I knew I had been totally wrong. This is a stunning movie. Toni Servillo was perfectly cast. It was arty, but unpretentiously. A must see. Paolo Sorrentino is a Genius!!
I fell asleep in the middle of the film. The plot was apparently not interesting enough to keep me up. Furthermore, the next day when I watched for the second half of the film, I found the illogical consequence. When you mess around with somebody's else money, and it is not £1 or £2 AND that somebody is a mafia, how on earth can you still take a breath?
From technical perspective, there is nothing new about the directing and editing techniques that are used in this movie. Watch Moulin Rouge or The Phantom of The Opera or some Japanese movies, you will understand what I mean.
Background information is not sufficient. The man always calls his wife and children, but none describes the necessary information about the consequences of his life on his family.
To sum up: A man meets a girl and this man has a dark past. At the end, no happy ending. This is what the movie is all about. No pleasure in watching this film. Thus, save your time and rent something else. Sure, this movie is not a Hollywood type. That fact is refreshing. But at the same time, no additional effort put in to make this film interesting. At least, I expect a little bit of humour somewhere along the line.
Best known for super-slick film noir The Consequences of Love, Italian director Paolo Sorrentino’s latest film Il Divo reunites him with Consequences star Tony Servillo. Together they take a look at the career of seven-time Prime Minister of Italy, Giulio Andreotti, who was tried on multiple occasions for murder, corruption and Mafia involvement, but never convicted. We caught up with Paolo on one of his rare trips to the UK and asked him how making a film based on a political figure... Read more
