Mother Earth gets her own back!
By mrsdiesel from Middlesex , 27 Nov 2003[Highly rated reviewer]
This film is not all about the special effects - spectacular as they are! They were so good that I was squirming in my seat because I could almost feel the heat! This is all about the characters - the heroes and heroines who you can identify and sympathise with. There is always the one character who really makes you want to reach into your screen and pop him one on the chin and Stanley Tucci plays him with gusto - so much that he really irritated me (but don't you just love it! ) Delroy Lindo plays a strong role with bite - the down-trodden genius scientist with heart - more for him and less of the gangster/cop type roles he usually picks. Each character gets their moment in the light so you get to know and empathise with them a little. In this action packed adventure a group of odd-balls try to save the world, when Mother Earth lets us knows she's had enough of us, so there is the underlying Eco-Warrior aspect. The technology employed to persuade you of this fact is so believable, you can just imagine a 'Virgil' is locked up in some government facility somewhere in the world waiting for the day...- Was this review helpful to you?

B movie at its core and the better for it..
By GordonVader (106 reviews) from Emerald City, oz , 10 Jan 2013[Highly rated reviewer]
ok so I have decided in my infinite wisdom to review every single film i have ever seen on love film... Currently still on the letter 'A' Why this film shows up under the letter 'a' is its own mystery... Produced at the same time as a whole heap of the End of the World Movies... Armageddon , Deep impact, Day After Tomorrow et al... It was almost industrial Light and Magic were having a sale on end of the world FX... All the elements are here from the others... the scientific discovery, the uninformed President,. the top secret project, the million to one shot, the beautiful CGI, the maverick scientist with the left field idea, the noble sacrifice, the near miss cliffhanger and the rest... Just substitute the great big rock in space/ super volcano/ climate change for some nonsense about the earth's core... Nothing wrong with it just a classic big budget b movie like the rest of them- Was this review helpful to you?

Watch for the Special Effects
By a customer , 18 Jul 2011I thought that this movie was predictable and that I was going to be disappointed. As the movie started I immediately thought of 'Journey to the Center of the Earth'. OK ... there are a lot of similarites, but the acting and special effects of 'The Core' far outweigh those of its predecessor. Both Aaron Eckhart and Hilary Swank play out their roles with perfection and are aided by a strong supporting cast. The storyline is strong but unfortuanely it is predictable as I have mentioned previously. However, I wasn't as disappointed as I thought I was going to be as there were several unexpected twists and turns in the script that takes the viewer by surprise. Well worth watching just for the special effects alone.- Was this review helpful to you?

The Core
By Malcp (1 review) from Eastleigh , 28 May 2011Enjoyable for a relaxing not too brain taxing watch. Has the ingredients that make good sci-fi but stays in the predictable and doesn't leave you guessing at all with what comes next. Romance ingredient almost got there but not quite at the end. The rival scientists had mileage to get more edgy but was touching and funny at the end for all those sentalmentalists out there. Still worth a watch but won't be in my top ten sci-fi pics. Definitely follows the tried and tested formula for all end of the world sagas.- Was this review helpful to you?
