Mother Earth gets her own back!By mrsdiesel from Middlesex , 27 Nov 2003
[Highly rated reviewer]This film is not all about the special effects - spectacular as they are! They were so good that I was squirming in my seat because I could almost feel the heat! This is all about the characters - the heroes and heroines who you can identify and sympathise with. There is always the one character who really makes you want to reach into your screen and pop him one on the chin and Stanley Tucci plays him with gusto - so much that he really irritated me (but don't you just love it! ) Delroy Lindo plays a strong role with bite - the down-trodden genius scientist with heart - more for him and less of the gangster/cop type roles he usually picks. Each character gets their moment in the light so you get to know and empathise with them a little. In this action packed adventure a group of odd-balls try to save the world, when Mother Earth lets us knows she's had enough of us, so there is the underlying Eco-Warrior aspect. The technology employed to persuade you of this fact is so believable, you can just imagine a 'Virgil' is locked up in some government facility somewhere in the world waiting for the day...

Boys filmBy manymovies (25 reviews) from Maidstone , 06 Dec 2007My sons are 13 and 11. We enjoyed this one together. Implausible story line, wooden acting and rubbish script BUT thouroughly enjoyable for a boys adventure film. Reminded me of that old 'the land that time forgot' film. Never gonna win an oscar but good fun anyway. Recommended for boys of all ages - especially the ones over 30!
Dumbass to the coreBy RJNeb2 (1016 reviews) from London , 17 Nov 2007There's dumb and there's dumb, but this disaster movie takes dumb to all new depths as the earth's core stops rotating and a crack team of scientists are sent down there in a strange burrowing machine with a payload of nuclear bombs to get it all started again. As ludicrous as that sounds, it's nothing compared to the half-baked interpretation of what the centre of the earth looks like, and the fact that the team all run around in shiny suits that can withstand temperatures in excess of thousands of degrees. Yeah, right. Apart from some money shots of Rome and San Francisco getting fried, however, this mostly consists of a none too charismatic cast sitting around in a cockpit.
Core Values?By hrhpod (32 reviews) from Edinburgh , 21 Apr 2007I'm assuming a few people's swimming pools were needing retiled when the script was doing the rounds.
Nobody's going to be bragging about this on 'in the actor's studio', that's for sure.
There's a kind of poetry to it's predictability and stupidity though - I'll give it that.
Doesn't take itself seriously, which is part of the fun!By Surama from London, UK , 01 Apr 2007This film is excellent fun. It's an imaginative disaster movie which effectively mixes real, nail-biting action, some very moving moments, and makes gentle fun of itself all at the same time. The actors are all clearly having a fantastic time making the film, it's exeuberant and lively yet the serious moments are truly affecting.
Great as a popcorn movie, some stunning special effects (the plasma trails are a special favourite of mine), and much much better value than most disaster movies around at the moment.

Great fun if you turn off your brainBy a customer from Scotland , 19 Mar 2007Don't think about this movie too much and this can be a great time. The premesis is totally improbable, and at some times seems to be a mix between Armageddon and Journey to the Centre of the Earth, but as long as you don't take it seriously it can be great. The movie doesn't waste any time setting things up, it just jumps right into the action and never really stops going. The cast is really good and all work quite well together. It is a typical disaster movie but with a slightly different spin, as they go to the Earth's core. Steer clear if you are a geologist, volcanologist, etc. It would just be annoying.
