(16)Before that other show about Baltimore...
By sparrowsfall (3 reviews) , 12 Feb 2013When The Wire cropped up on BBC2 with all kinds if hype about how good it was, I watched it thinking 'yeah, yeah'. Apart from the fifth series, it was brilliant! I came across articles about The Wire and discovered the makers had done another show beforehand entitled The Corner. If you liked The Wire you will like The Corner. It focuses on one family and how their lives centre around the corners of Baltimore. For the unitiated, a corner is a patch of ground where people deal and use drugs. Khandi Alexander is excellent in this: when I first saw her in CSI Miama, I was not impressed. Then, she turned in a good performance in Treme. Here she is outstanding as Fran Boyd - and really The Corner is her story, of her journey to and from The Corner.- Was this review helpful to you?

The Wire prelude..
By Stew_84 (2 reviews) from Canterbury , 09 Apr 2011As a great fan of 'The Wire' I sought out to watch the other projects from Simon/Mills/Burns, such as 'Generation Kill', 'Treme', and eventually this led me to 'The Corner'. This is a great mini-series. A bleak and hopeless real-life account of Baltimore drug life with moments of true beauty.
While a great show in its own right, I couldn't help but see it as a prelude to 'The Wire' due to the many same actors used and in some of the storylines that later on would be readdressed and expanded. Cop it.- Was this review helpful to you?

Sit down on your stoop and enjoy!!!
By balearicbayes (23 reviews) from Denny , 07 Apr 2011Was pleasantly surprised by this. I was gripped from start to finish and found myself really rooting for certain characters (fran especially). I thought this wouldn't be as good as The Wire, but if anything it was better as it focussed on less characters, so you felt more involved in their struggles!!
Grim reality at its best!!- Was this review helpful to you?

Gripping Eye Opener
By Eastie (3 reviews) from Lancaster , 02 Sep 2010Different to Wire - just as good. A humanistic, up front and honest look into the lives of those living amongst drugs everyday in Baltimore. It draws you in as you get acquainted with each of the people involved. It's a real eye opener, a world far from my own, but the sense of humaity, loss and courage we can all see in ourselves helps us to identify with the struggle of our fellow man!- Was this review helpful to you?

As good as The Wire
By Dungbeetle (503 reviews) from London , 13 Aug 2010Another excellent character driven series all too short this time. Khandi Alexander is superb as the struggling mother and is ably supported by the rest of the cast. You feel you live in the street but thankfully dont.- Was this review helpful to you?
