Most helpful review
FascinatingBy Paul Latham from London, United Kingdom , 17 Oct 2007
[Highly rated reviewer]Based on the remarkable true story of 'Operation Bernhard' where the Nazis tried to bring down the UK economy by forging the pound, this film is completely gripping and expertly directed.
Note: It has subtitles and is at moments quite gruesome.

Competent but lacking somethingBy mj55 (171 reviews) , 13 Aug 2013Fairly well done but a little lacking in some way for me. I know it's based on a true story and so there is not much you can do if you want to retain some historical accuracy. I think I would have liked have known more about the counterfeiters, the processes they used and how the Nazis used the fake money. Everyone keeping their heads down and quietly doing their jobs does not necessarily make for that a compelling story.
The genuine articleBy The KnightWatcher (627 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 23 Jul 2013WWII Drama. Based on true story of concentration camp where Jewish bakers, printers, and craftsmen were forced to forge British and USA bank notes in a plot to destabilize their currencies. A very good film, well directed, cast, and acted. German with sub-titles which sometimes come and go a bit too fast to read. Let down only by an appalling and very dated musical score.
Sad but a little gem!By bigbang (66 reviews) , 18 Jun 2013Wow, what a story. One of the best film in that genre i have seen! difficult moral dilemna:, the eternal question of doing something sacrificing few human beings, making them martyrs for a greater good or do whatever it takes to survive allowing big compromises. I feel lucky i wasn't put in that position in my life time. It also reminds us that the average Germans themselves were put in a difficult situation... It became a mad world! Great film, very sad to re-visit this period with some shocking images, well directed and acted. I cannot recommend it enough even if you are fed up with this subject! Even the soundtrack is good! The only critic i have is what happened to Sally the main character?
Forged in the fires of history.By Loopgrinder (170 reviews) , 20 May 2013A dark and rather bleak movie that captures the horror of the concentration camps and the ruthlessness of the Nazis in gruesome detail. A brilliant retelling of this true tale of attempted espionage - a genius evil master plan - that was foiled by the downfall of the German army in 1945. The acting is solid throughout and the filmmaking flawless. Well worth a watch.
Good film.By a customer , 21 Apr 2013Amazing true story. Good film. Well worth watching (we must never forget) and found the sub titles fine. I thought it captured well some of the tensions experienced by the print team in the Camp. (unimaginably cruel)
