  • A fantastic cheer-yourself-up movie

Delightful comedy that sends up all the stereotypes of a courtly fantasy epic, while still drawing you into the story.

It throws in some enjoyable songs and very fast repartee (like the lovely story of the Duchess with her dirk...), and some dazzling/idiotic swordfighting scenes. And Glynis Johns looks very beautiful as a Maid Marian type character.

I recommend that you watch this in company - as part of the pleasure is some of the very quotable lines ('Get it? - Got it - Good!' became a flat catchphrase soon after my flatmate and I watched it together!)

OK, so this isn't a deep or meaningful film and it's pretty clear that good will triumph in the end.... But as a feel-good movie guaranteed to start a few chuckles when things aren't going well... I'd thoroughly recommend it!

    Enjoy...!

I remember watching this as a child many years ago, great fun then & even now watching as an adult. Some amazing stunts.....the fight scene with Danny & Basil just brilliant & who can ever forget those words regarding the vessel with the pestle & the chalice from the palace, or even the flagon with the picture of a dragon!!! Now I know it's available for loan will try & buy my own copy.

They say you should never go back - that what you enjoyed in your childhood should be left as memories...

    Well they're wrong!!

This was as much a joy seeing it all these years later as it was the first time I sat between my mum and dad in the one and nines at 'The Regal' Oxford and laughed so hard that I nearly choked on my Butterkist.

It might seem dated to some, and those with sensitive eyesight may require sunglasses because of the Glorious Technicolor but I recommend to anyone, now the dark Winter's evenings are approaching: settle down in front of the telly with a bag of popcorn and a glass of wine (as long as it's not in the chalice from the Palace) and enjoy!

Yes, I do remember this golden oldie! Get it, got it, good! And the poison's in the vessel with the pestle but the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true! Manic but still very entertaining. Danny Kaye at his very best. I found a wikipedia 'trivia' that said the Basil Rathbone was the most accomplished fencer (the sport not stolen goods!) in Hollywood but Kaye was such a good mimic that in 3 weeks he had mastered fencing and was better than Basil - the final fight scene i sjust magic!

It may just be a film for a wet Sunday afternoon now but it will amuse today's kids (and adults) still.

You can't actually review a movie that didn't make it to it's destination... then is claimed that it was returned.

I have been waiting for this film for a while and was really looking forward to watching but it didn't arrive at all

we got the email saturday night that it was shipped didn't arrive monday or tuesday and wednesday we supposedly returned it...

    I don't think so ...

    so can't review
