Country cousins have been showing up city slickers since the earliest days of the movies, but this comedy western has to be one of the worst variations on the hicks-from-the-sticks theme. Woody Harrelson, with a gleeful disregard for restraint, whoops and hollers his way through the picture, as he and rodeo partner Kiefer Sutherland stalk the Big Apple in search of their Mexican buddy's kidnapped daughter. In Harrelson's defence, he does at least try to make something out of Bill Wittliff's hugely derivative script and there's also a neat turn from Ernie Hudson as a cowboy crazy cop, but as a whole it's rather coarse and clumsy.
Smug and unlikeable lead performances sink this comedy from the start, though it would have sunk anyway, whoever had played the roles.
good wee movie with a few chuckles thrown in for good measure. 4 stars
