[Highly rated reviewer]Usually I love Australian dramas, but this was too slow and rather predictable.
Pretty Good Movie...By wikkidsmyle (438 reviews) from Newmarket , 25 Feb 2008Russell Crowe's first 'starring' movie - having made his film debut in 'Prisoners of the Sun' of the same year - is your basic 'love triangle' story with a returning ex-boyfriend, Sam (Mammone) threatening to split Meg (Spencer) and her new squeeze, Johnny (Crowe). Although the lead actors do well under the beautifully artistic direction of George Ogilvie (who co-directed Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome), the film suffers from a conflict of 'period feel' (its 50's setting) and a contemporary soundtrack, and an ending that is signposted a mile off. Still, you can clearly see the 'rising star' in Crowe, as he gives Johnny a sympathetic edge and practically acts everyone else off the screen. Pity then that this film only warranted a crap 'bare bones' transfer, courtesy of uber-cheap Hollywood DVD.
UninspiringBy a customer from Derbyshire, England , 17 Aug 2006It would be hard to spot, on the basis of this film, that Russell Crowe would become a big star. There's nothing wrong with it; it's just a bit-well-dull. Perfectly watchable, no more, no less.
