A dark, surreal version of James O'Barr's 1980s cult comic book. Brandon Lee (son of Bruce) plays a rock musician returning from the grave to take revenge on the notorious street gang who murdered him and his fiancée. It's a stunningly designed fantasy with Grand Guignol gloominess at a jolting premium. The comic-book origins may be too obvious at times, but the dynamic action scenes and the bravura kinetic style of director Alex Proyas mean it always grips and thoroughly entertains. A masterpiece compared to its lousy sequel, this dark fable about life after death was given a poignant spin when Lee was tragically killed during an on-set stunt accident.

    I Don't Know Why........

I don't know why but this film has always appealed to me, maybe it's the savagely dark edge of watching a film about a man's return from death knowing the making of it killed it's star. While this is never going to going down as one of the greatest films of all time, these facts simply combine to produce a genuine sense of melancholy which has given this movie a certain aura which very few movies can hope (or really want to) emulate.

    wonderful

To be honest i came to watch this film thinking its only so popular because the lead star died in the making of it, but i was wrong.

it is both moving and thought provocing. The violence is not too graphic and you really are made to feel the pain of the main character. You begin to hope that he is successful in his plight to seek revenge on those that ruined his life.

The excellent performace by Brandon Lee saddened me to think that he will never again get to make such a great performance.

definatly one to see, and i plan to buy it now.

This dvd will be of interest only to people who are related to the actors or makers of the crow. It should be sent out only with the film itself. and not as a film to watch

    the beautiful darkness.....

I hadn't seen this for a few years but it seems to have become a minor classic. Some of my favourite films are more like places I like to visit, sit in the atmosphere for a while and soak it up. This is a fine example of that. Moody, dark streets, harsh lighting, non-stop rain, sex, death, black leather, tragedy, rock music and crows. What more do you need on a Saturday night?

Excellent performance by Brandon Lee, who surely would have gone on to be a huge star if it hadn't been for the senseless accident that took his life (while making this very film). Also Michael Wincott as one of my favourite bad guys, always worth a look.

So if your wardrobe is leaning towards the black and you appreciate a chap with smudged eyeliner - you'll love this.

    A Truly Great Film

    This film is awesome.

Brandon Lee plays Eric Draven a struggling rock musician in a dark violent city. One day himself and his wife are killed by a local gang. But its Halloween and one year later Eric returns with vengence on his mind.

Brandon Lee puts on a fantastic performance, his acting is flawless and you really start to feel the pain in his character. It is hard to watch his fight scenes without seeing the similarity to his father, the late Bruce Lee. Ignore all its sequels- this is THE film to watch. Brandon Lee simply is the Crow and no-one else can fill those shoes.

Unfortunately this film is famous not for its greatness but because of the fact it killed Brandon Lee.

Before filming a gun scene, a gun wasnt properly cleaned and a bullet fragment was left in the barrel. When the scene was shot this bullet piece hit Brandon in the stomach and he died a few days later in hospital.

Much of the film had to be completed by computer visual effects due to Brandons tragic death, but it is so well done you cannot tell.

This film shows that had he lived, Brandon Lee could easily have obtained the super-stardom that his father was robbed of by death.

    The Crow

This is a very difficult thing to write about. Not least because the star Brandon Lee died whilst making this film in a stunt gone wrong.

More eerie is the subject matter this film tackles - Death. Lee plays a character by the name of Eric Draven who is murdered, along with his girlfriend Shelly. He is brought back for one night, exactly a year after his death to avenge the killing of himself and his beloved.

Why do I love this film? Why is this film so great? It carries a message with it. It isn't just about shooting people. It is about appreciating what you have and making the most of what you have.

Eric was a guy who had found his soul mate. Brandon was a guy who found his soul mate. He was due to marry just before he was killed. And the tragic thing is his death SHOULD have been avoided. He was shot by an actor whilst filming his Death scene. The arms guy had gone home because they couldn't afford him to stay and supervise the use of the weapons.

This film almost never got completed which would have been a real shame for everyone involved, especially the movie watching public. After Lee's death the movie was suspended for 6 months. Lee described this movie as the only movie he has ever been proud of making.

This film carries many messages that have great significance to many people...Watch it, you won't regret it.

FAntasticly beautiful dark gothic romantic action film. Avoid the sequels if you can. Inspired a whole swathe of goths to wrap insulation tape around their wrists (or was that just Yorkshire?)

    A gothic revenge fantasy...

'The Crow' is a fantastic film, which I think will settle well with you if you enjoy revenge stories. This one is basically a sexy, gothed-up tale of one man's revenge from beyond the grave. Brandon Lee is excellent in his role as a man imbued with the power of immortality and who has to cope with the results of that power eventually leaving him. The film has a tragic message attached to it, made all the more tragic when you remember that Lee actually died during the making of the movie due to an on-set accident. None of the subsequent sequels can really match this one, though I think 'Crow 3' has a slightly wicked energy that is missing from the others. I'd certainly advise you to avoid 'Wicked Prayer' - argh! What a terrible sequel!
