A wonderful re-enactment of Arthur Millers Classic Play.

Brilliant Film!

Daniel Day Lewis happens to be one of my most favoured actors; and he certainly does not disappoint as John Proctor. His moving speech at the confession signing brought me to tears and positively overwhelmed me, to such lengths as did Mel Gibson in Braveheart. Brilliant!- Was this review helpful to you?

Almost shocking

I don't know how true the film is to the original play but I still enjoyed the film. i find it quite shocking really that some silly little girls can decide the fate of grown and respectable adults. Not very Bewitching
By a customer , 29 Jul 2011I really did not enjoy this film. At times it was badly acted particularly by Rider and the other female 'witnesses'. So much so that some scenes could have been lifted from camcorder recordings of a childrens amateur dramatics class. It was actually that bad and that cringe worthy in parts. The subject matter was presented in such a way that it made it annoying and frustrating to see the storyline play out. It really is one to miss. On a positive note the wine we drank whilst watching it was superb.- Was this review helpful to you?

Good bad good.
By a customer from Manchester , 07 Feb 2011The first third of the film is intense and meaty. The second is slow, pathetic and the actors lose direction.
However, by the last third it picks itself back up. I went to the cinema four times to see this, and watching it again now it really isn't a classic film. In fact I dislike more each time I see it. Weirdly, Daniel Day Lewis over hams every scene.... what happened to that raw talent he used to portray? Winona plays it safe and sticks the screenplay idealism.
Arthur Miller was edgier than this and if the film could have any improvements it would be the interaction of the characters with the hysterical township.... also get rid of those American accents, it's the 1690's not the 1990's.- Was this review helpful to you?
